What are we going to learn?

Students at Classical Guitar Kansas City (CGKC) learn comprehensive musicianship skills, performance capability, analytic abilities, and stylistic knowledge.

Our classic guitar curriculum is divided into three interweaving categories:

  1. Technique
  2. Reading music
  3. Music interpretation and performance

Technique teaches the student how to hold the guitar with correct posture and teaches the fingers to move in a proper way that makes playing the guitar easier.  Students will develop a solid technique and will learn to play the guitar not just correctly, but also beautifully.

If you have never read music notation (notes and rests), that is not a problem. The lessons will teach you how to read music in a comprehensive fashion that is both fun and challenging. Sight reading allows you to learn and play with confidence and speed.

Various music theory topics will be presented in the lessons and will directly relate to the student’s classical guitar playing.

CGKC offers monthly opportunities for the student to perform. The instructor will help choose the repertoire most suitable for the student’s level and will instruct the student how to perform the music using proper performance practice. Acquiring proper technique and good practice habits results in a confident and self-assured performance.
